Date Rape Drug

I am 67 now. In 1984 my younger sister met a man and he drugged her with a date rape drug. Her story was like so many I have heard. She woke up naked and didn’t know how she had gotten there. She was horrified. She knew she had been raped, but of course he was telling her it was consensual sex. Weeks later she realized she was pregnant. She finally told me what had happened and ask me to go with her to have an abortion.

A year later we are out one night at a bar, it is getting close to closing time and every one is getting ready to leave. We are milling around deciding who is riding in what cars. I start feeling very strange, so I excuse myself to go to the ladies room. While I was in the bathroom I could feel I was loosing control of my body and got frightened. I didn’t know what to do. I knew something very bad was about to happen to me.

I was living on the Island of Maui, and was just feet from the beach. I exited the ladies room and went straight to the beach. Being drugged and confused I missed the top step of the stairs that lead down to the beach and fell about 10 feet to the sand below. I don’t know how long I was there. At some point I staggered down the beach toward where I thought I would be safe.

My sister and friends looked for me all night, but had no idea of what had happened. The next thing I remembered was wakening on the cold sand. The sun was shining and people were walking there dogs. I still had my purse, it was under my body. I was missing my shoes. No one said anything to me. I just got up and walked to my sister’s house, three blocks away.
She was frantic, and worried. I told her that I just knew I had to escape, before I passed out. If I hadn’t known her story I am sure I would have ended up being a rape survivor. As it was I had broken ribs, scratches and bruises from falling on the wooden stairs leading down to the beach.

The whole thing was frightening and embarrassing, I was 38 years old and was sure nothing like that could happen to me.
This is the first time I have shared this story, with anyone outside my close circle. I just watched your video on Netflix, and wanted to tell you how Brave I think you are.
